My Story - Day 1 - August 14, 2007

This is my story about my trip to Mexico in August of 2007. I realize it's May when I'm writing this, but that's because I just found this spiffy blog to write all about my trips on. These are actual journal entries from my journal written while I was there.... So...here it goes....
Note: Please make sure you read the posts in chronological order. =)

August 14, 2007
10:00 pm:

Well here we are in Detroit. Finally on our way to Mexico! We are staying at a Comfort Inn in Romulus. We didnt realize our room had a jacuzzi when we booked it, but it does! It was $90.00 which inlcuded 7 days of parking. We get free breakfast from 4am - 9am and there is a cool bar in the lobby. It's a really nice hotel for $90. They even have free internet and 24/7 shuttle to the airport.
We got a late start heading to Detroit. We left around 6:30 pm. We stopped at McDonalds for dinner. Now it is time to relax before bed. Tomorrow we have to be at the airport at 5am. So nighty night!

Day 2 - August 15, 2007

Day 2 - August 15, 2007

Well, we made it! We are in sunny Mexico! Our flight was good. USA3000 proved to be an excellent airline. It took about an hour to get to Aventura Spa Palace. Our shuttle service was through Lomas Travel. When we got here our room wasn't ready. So, we ate lunch at the pool bar on the North Side. Then we went for a walk. Finally, our room was ready. We are in room 4204. It's nice but it's a corner room so we don't have a hammock like some of the other rooms. =( Oh well, its too hot to sit outside anyway. We were really tired so we took a nap. Then we got up, unpacked and dressed for dinner. We went to Mundaca (the steak house). It was muy excellente! Richie had a tenderloin and I had ribs. We also had corn cream soup which was the best! Then we had a surprise when we got back to our room. A cute little cake and a bottle of champange. That's the 3rd bottle we've had delivered since we've arrived! The cake said "Happy Anniversary." Our anniversary is on June 18 but we couldnt go to Mexico until August due to school. So it wasnt really our anniversary but that is when we were celebrating it. The cake was good! Now its time to go to bed...tomorrow we go to Dolphin Discovery!

G'Nite!

Day 3 - August 16, 2007

Day 3 - August 16, 2007

WOW! Today was awesome! We ate breakfast at MoMoNoHana. It was good and it was a buffet with made to order omlettes and french toast and pancakes. There was so much food! Then we went to Dolphin Discovery. We did the Sea Life Discovery Plus Program which meant we got to swim with Dolphins, Sea Lions, and Manatees! It was great. Very hot though. We ate at a little resturant in Puerto Aventuras where Dolphin Discovery is for lunch. Puerto Aventuras is a little gated community with different resturants and shopping.

I'll write more later....

Day 4 - August 17, 2007

Day 4 - August 17, 2007:

We are at Chichen Itza. Richie is climbing the observatory while I sit and write this in the shade. It's way too HOT. The bus ride was about 2.5 hours, but it was fine.

I was too tired to write more yesterday. We thought the Mexican Fiesta was going to have food but it didn't so we went to Ventana's for dinner. They are a buffet serving many foods, but are known for pizza and pasta. We went back for breakfast buffet today. We bought blacnkets and some cool Mayan charms at the Mayan Village stop on the way to Chichen Itza. We are going to eat lunch soon. Then we head back to ASP. We wont be back until after 8pm.

Well more later....maybe. =)

Day 5- August 18, 2007

Day 5- August 18, 2007:

Well, I was too tired to write yesterday, plus I didnt feel well. We ate lunch at a place that was inlcuded with Chichen Itza. It was horrible. YUCK! We went to MoMoNoHana for dinner yesterday. It was okay. Richie liked it a lot more than I did. However, I think I would have liked it more had I felt better. It was just such a long, hot day that I think food wasnt settleing well. I tried sushi, it was DISGUSTING! Then we went to bed.

Today we got up and went to MoMoNoHana for breakfast. Then we walked around the resort. We found the indoor pool with smoothie bar, the zen garden and meditation garden. Then we went swimming for a long time.

Next, we at lunch at El Greco. VERY GOOD! Great buffet. They had a taco bar, grill with hamburgers, fries, nachos, pizza, and so much more. After eating we came back to our room to relax. Now, there is a bad thunderstorm. There is also a hurricane coming this way. Hurricane Dean is hitting Jamaica. Good think we didnt go there this year. It may come to the Yucatan. I hope we dont have to leave early. Paula is supposed to be here today. Maybe we'll meet her later. Well, Im sunburnt and tired. Im going to watch TV. More later....maybe.

-back-

Its almost 1am. We've stayed up late because of the hurricane coming our way. Everyone is freaking out. A lot of people have evacuated. We dont even know if its going to hit here yet. We'll probably get 1 week free if it does. It's scary, but its not bad out yet.

For dinner we met Paula and Jim. We went back to Mundaca. mmm..corn cream soup. =)
Then we came to our room and saw an evacuation notice on our door. So we went to the front lobby to ask about it. It's optional so we are staying. It would be dumb to leave. So we played cards in the North Lobby and then took a bath in our jaquzzi tub. =) After that we ordered room service. I'm tired, maybe Im finally relaxed enough to sleep.
G'Nite =)

Day 6 - August 19, 2007

Day 6- August 19, 2007:

Man, its late. Hurricane dean took a turn south so, so far we havent had to evacuate to the convention center.

We went to MoMoNoHana for breakfast, which seemed to be our morning ritual. Then we went swimming with Paula and Jim. It rained, but we went to the indoor pool. Then we ate lunch at El Greco. It was better yesterday, than today, but still excellent.

Then we laid around upset because of the hurricane. Our kitchen tour was canceled. Then we decided not to be so down, so we went to the cross current pool. Its supposed to be a work out but Richie and I floated on our rafts like a lazy river. After that we got a call that we dont have to evacuate because the hurricane turned so far south. We decided to celebrate so we went to La Trattoria (italian). Boy was it GOOD!

Then we went to Sweet & Coffee for more dessert. I had a Bailey's cup and Richie had a crepe. Yum. While we were at dinner we pet and fed a beautiful long haired cat that looked like our cat Max. After Sweet & Coffee we went to the Thai Lounge, it was very cool but way to loud and had a lot of drunks at it. So, we left to the South Lobby. We didnt stay too long, we were way too tired. On our way back to our room there was a black & white kitty who wanted food and love. We pet her and then she followed us to our room and wanted it. It was very sad. She went to the room service left overs then sat outside our room. I think she is gone now. Its like 2 or 3am so Im going to bed. Good Night.

Day 7 - August 20, 2007

Day 7 - August 20, 2007:

Today we got up late and ate breakfast at....you guessed it....MoMoNoHana. Then we asked about going to Playa Del Carmen but they said it was best to stay at our resort. So we went swimming for a few hours with Paula and Jim. Then Richie and I went to Ventanas for lunch. Very good buffet. While we ate we watched them pull the hurricane shutters closed. Then we walked around a while and we had bad heat rash so we went to the indoor pool and used the cold plunge pool. There we watched the employees move everything from El Greco into the indoor pool and then they closed the hurricane shutters. We then decided we should get ready for dinner because they only have for resturants open tonight. La Huerta, Ventanas, La Hacienda and MoMoNoHaha. And they were only open from 6pm - 8pm because of the hurricane and our curfew. We went to La Huerta with Paula, Jim and Randy. While there the hurricane started. It was scary walking back to our room. Our curfew was 8pm - 10am the next morning. We cant leave our rooms. No room service. We have to keep the doors closed and the blinds shut. Cant use the jaquzzi tub. But thats okay. The waves are really high but I dont think its raining at this time. Well, Im exhausted so Im going to bed. Being on lock down there's nothing else to do. Good night.

PS- Richie surprised me with a beautiful Amber necklace and bracelet.

Day 8 - August 21, 2007

Day 8 - August 21, 2007:

Well last night we were moved to the convention center because of the hurricane. It was about 11pm when we got the call. Dean slowed down as it made landfall. We had to go because the winds were too strong for us to leave in the morning and they would have had no way to serve us breakfast. Who knows what will happen for lunch. We slept on pool chairs with pillows and blankets . Paula, Jim, Nicole & Randy were our cot mates. Then at about 8am we ate breakfast and they told us we could leave and go back to our room. But we cant leave them. The waves are awesome. Definately an experience we wont forget.

- more later-

Day 9 - August 22, 2007

Day 9 - August 22, 2007:

Yesterday they opened up lunch at about 1pm. They only had Ventana's open. Then we went back to our room. Later, we went to the gift shopand then we went to the South Bar. Then we got together with Paula and Jim. We ate dinner at Ventans because only there and MoMoNoHana was open. Then we went back to our room. Then we found kitty and fed her. We got up this morning and got ready for our 10:40am flight. On our way out, Kitty found us. It was sad. We ate breakfast at Starbucks in the airport. We got back to Detroit around 3pm. We're staying at the same Comfort Inn in Romulus as we did when we left. We went to a place called Mexican Fiesta II for dinner. Then we took a bath in our jaquzzi tub. Then we got a snack from the bar. Now its time to relax and snuggle. Its sad to be home. Goodnight. =(

Day 10 - August 23, 2007

Day 10 - August 23, 2007:

The next day we slept in and then got up and went to IKEA. Then we went to Golden Corral. When we finished eating we decided to drive to Canada because I'd never been there and I wanted to tell people I was in 3 countries in 2 days. It was $3.50 each way to cross the boarder.

We went to Devonshire mall and then to the river where we watched a thunderstorm roll in over the Detroit skyline. Then we drove home and had McDonalds for dinner.

This concludes our trip to Mexico in August of 2007. We will be returning next year!
